NAGPUR: A 23-year-old man allegedly made a hoax call late Monday night claiming that a bomb was planted at Maharashtra deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis's home in Nagpur after he experienced a power outage at his residence, police said on Tuesday.
Threatening to detonate a bomb in front of Fadnavis's home, the caller had called the emergency police control room at (100).
The man, identified as Kundan Hire, had called up the control room from his residence at New Gawlipura in Nagpur’s New Kamptee.
He had asserted that the bomb was already stored and prepared for detonation.
It's learnt Hire, a labourer, had called up the control room around six times between 10.36pm and 12.0 am.
In the call, made at 11.45 pm, Hire had issued the threat triggering panic in the police department.
It's learnt Hire, an orphan, was brought up by her aunt. Police said he seemed mentally disturbed but no medical records could be found.
Sources said Hire was miffed with electricity theft in his neighbourhood. He had alerted the control room following which two bike-borne patrolling cops had reached his place. Learning about electricity theft, the cops had left suggesting Hire must contact the department concerned.
Disappointed with the police response, Hire started continuously calling the control room.
After receiving his call about the explosion in front of the Fadnavis home, Hire was rounded up by New Kamptee police.
Hire had also created a ruckus at the New Kamptee police station demanding the cell phone numbers of the CP or SP.
Senior inspector Bharat Kshirsagar of New Kamptee police station stated an offence of creating panic was registered against Hire. "We had arrested Hire under special provision," said Kshirsagar.
