The Port Arthur Economic Development Corporation Youth Employment Program is offering summer jobs for up to 13 Port Arthur high school seniors graduating in 2023. The preferred candidates would have been enrolled in a Career and Technology program at their respective high school for the 2022-2023 school year.
The positions are eight weeks long. The deadline to submit an application is April 10.
"The goal of this Employment Program is to offer successful candidates an opportunity to improve their skills as well as the experience of working in a business environment closely relative to their field of study," an information sheet for the company reads. "Participants generally will find the experience to be rewarding and interesting."
According to the information sheet, the program is designed to be to a learning environment outside the classroom to show the "transfer of concepts, principles, theories and models" from a classroom to a professional practice setting.
"While meeting the academic needs of the student, the employment program also establishes a closer relationship with businesses and practitioners, provides a conduit for the exchange of contemporary thinking and insights among the companies, students, practitioners and provides service to the community," an information packet from the corporation reads. "In doing so, the Employment Program compliments the mission of the Port Arthur Economic Development Corporation Job Training Program, the students and local schools."
Participants in the program will receive an hourly salary from the Port Arthur Economic Development Corporation. However, they will be responsible for their own living and transportation accommodations.
Most of the positions will be located in the city of Port Arthur, but some could be in Beaumont or other nearby areas.
"All Port Arthur High School Seniors graduating in 2023 and are interested in a summer job can obtain applications from their high school counselors or the Port Arthur Education Development Corporation at 500 Procter St. in Port Arthur," the information sheet reads.
