Prayagraj: At a time when different departments have started preparations in view of Mahakhumbh 2025, one of the foremost important departments, that of road transportation, too have started making preparations from their end.
The Prayagraj division of UP State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has received 14 new buses which are of B6 standard. The corporation plans to run around 8,000 buses and the fleet of the corporation will have only those buses which are well maintained.
The second batch of six new buses for the roadways reached Prayagraj on Saturday and this will add up to the fleet which is being stabilised in view of Mahakumbh to be held in 2025. With this, 14 new buses have joined the fleet of buses which are already plying in different routes by different deports of the four districts coming under the ambit of Prayagraj division. This division comprises Prayagraj, Mirzapur, Pratapgarh and Kaushambi.
“We have started the process of enhancing the services that are provided by us, especially in terms of Mahakumbh wherein roadways play a pivotal role in handling the huge influx of devotees, tourists and pilgrims from all corner of the country and the state”, said regional manager, UPSRTC (Prayagraj), MK Trivedi.
These buses would operate from Civil Lines, Prayag, Leader Road and Zero road bus depot. The Prayag depot of the district operate 107 buses of which two are brand new buses. Likewise, Civil Lines depot too operate 700 buses of which around 150 are on contract and the rest are operated by UPSRTC.
The transport corporation has asked the government for 2,000 new buses. It is expected that around 1,000 buses will be given this year and the rest by the next year (2024). Out of these 2,000 new buses, 100 buses will be provided to Prayagraj on a permanent basis.
Buses are available for Gorakhpur, Bahraich and Saharanpur while new buses will also ply on Gorakhpur, Bahraich and Saharanpur routes. Buses will be available from Prayagraj to Jaunpur-Azamgarh-Gorakhpur at 6.30 am and at 8.30 pm. From Prayag to Bahraich, two buses will be available in the morning hours i.e. 5 and 6am.
Buses will operate from Prayagraj to Ayodhya, Kanpur-Meerut-Saharanpur. It is for the first time the bus will operate from Prayagraj to Saharanpur.
