Cincinnati will host Ohio's first Red Bull Flugtag since 2004 on Saturday, Aug. 12, Mayor Aftab Pureval and Red Bull Air Force athlete Jeff Provenzano announced Tuesday.

According to Red Bull's website, a flugtag, which is German for "flying day," is a competition in which individuals design and build human-powered flying machines that will be launched off a 27-foot flight deck over water.

“We couldn’t be more excited to welcome such a unique and fun spectacle to Cincy,” Pureval said in a statement. “Red Bull Flugtag offers a one-of-a-kind opportunity for residents and visitors to get together, show off their creativity, and celebrate what makes this community so special. I can’t wait to take part.”

The event, sponsored by Red Bull, Kroger and United Dairy Farmers, will feature up to 40 teams competing for exclusive Red Bull experiences, meet-and-greets with Red Bull athletes and more. The teams will be judged on the creativity of their design, their performance and the distance of their flight.
