Hubballi: Agriculture has transformed in recent years. Farmers must take in these changes and move towards modern farming, said Dr RM Kummur, retired general manager of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) . He was speaking after inaugurating a one-day seminar for farmers on the occasion of international farmers’ day organised by Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and industry (KCCI), Hubballi on Monday.
“The country is becoming rich. Crores of rupees have been invested on various development works but our farmers are not becoming rich. Doing agriculture has become a costly affair in the recent years. Human resources have reduced due to diminishing interest in agriculture,” he said. Director of Water and Land Management Institute (WALMI), Dharwad, Dr Rajendra Poddar said agriculture schemes of union and state government are not reaching farmers. “Schemes should be implemented properly to take the benefits of technology to the farmers. Knowledge gap needs to be filled. Community participation is needed for speedy development of the agriculture sector. TNN
