COIMBATORE: The special court for the trial of cases registered under the Pocso Act on Monday awarded 10 years of rigorous imprisonment to a 34-year-old man and his two friends for raping a 16-year-old girl in 2019. The court slapped a fine of Rs 15,000 each on the accused.
F Jose alias Louis alias Joswa, of Erimedu at Ammankulam in the city, kidnapped the girl on June 8, 2019, and forcibly married her at Annur. He repeatedly raped her then.
Meanwhile, the girl’s father lodged a complaint with the Ramanathapuram police. Police rescued the girl on June 12, 2019, and produced her before the child welfare committee (CWC). Police arrested Joswa in August 2019. Police also arrested his two friends – Rasukutty and Srinivasan – for helping Joswa to kidnap the girl. The east all-woman police filed a chargesheet against the trio before the special court. On Monday, the court pronounced the verdict.
