COIMBATORE: The Tamil Nadu government has sanctioned additional manpower of 93 police personnel to the Coimbatore city police for the upcoming three new police stations - Karumbukadai, Kavundampalayam and Sundarapuram.
Director general of police Dr C Sylendra Babu has requested the state government to issue necessary administrative and financial sanctions for the formation of 10 new police stations including two stations -Irugur and Kalapatti -- for Coimbatore city police and one police station at Neelambur for the Coimbatore rural police.
After a car blast in front of Sangameswarar temple at Kottaimedu in Coimbatore city on October 23, chief minister MK Stalin announced three new police stations- Karumbukadai, Kavundampalayam and Sundarapuram --for Coimbatore city police on October 26, 2022.
K Phanindra Reddy, additional chief secretary (home, prohibition and excise) issued a government order (No -141) on March 2. The GO said that after careful examination, the state government has sanctioned Kanakiliyanallur station in Trichy district, Nallur police station in Krishnagiri district and Thiruvannamalai west police station in Thiruvannamalai district for the year of 2023. Another three police stations for Coimbatore city for the year of 2022-23 were announced.
The remaining four new stations will be sanctioned in the next financial year.
As per the GO, the sanctioned six police stations will get a strength of 186 police personnel and the state government will bear the expenditure of Rs 14.48 crore.
