GURGAON: A 24-year-old woman tested positive for the H3N2 virus on Monday. So far, surveillance teams have tested 176 people with flu-like symptoms and recorded 6 influenza cases in the city-4 type B and 2 H3N2. There are 4 types of influenza-A (with H3N2 as a subtype), B, C and D.
Health officials said anyone infected with the virus must take precautions like wear masks. "All contacts of positive cases have tested negative. No H3N2 patient is in the hospital at present," said Dr Virender Yadav, chief medical officer of Gurgaon.
"We have 300 rapid response teams, which are carrying out surveillance across the city," added the CMO.
Doctors noted the current influenza surge is more aggressive and long-lasting than usual, with symptoms such as cough and congestion lasting up to three weeks as opposed to the typical five to seven days for seasonal fever and cough.
The health department has urged people not to venture out if they have a fever and symptoms of influenza like cough, headache, sore throat, watery nose and shortness of breath.

Haryana has recorded 15 H3N2 cases, including three in Ambala, four in Rohtak, two in Gurgaon, and one in Panchkula, Sonipat, Fatehabad, Jind, Kurukshetra, Rewari, Faridabad.
