Ranchi: State health minister Banna Gupta on Sunday inaugurated a generic drug store, Amrit Pharmacy, at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims).
Such stores, according to the state department of health, medical education and family welfare, has been planned across the country by the Union ministry of health and family welfare.
“The new pharmacy will prove to be a blessing for the patients and their families who come to Rims to get treatment as drugs will be sold at discounted rates,” Gupta announced after the launch.
Sources in the health department claimed that similar Amrit Pharmacy stores would be set up across all state-run medical college hospitals and Sadar hospitals in the coming months.
“The idea is to give out generic drugs to patients at a maximum discount of 40%. That apart, the stores will also sell medical equipment required for prosthetic surgeries at discounted rates,” Gupta’s office told TOI.
“Many drug stores around Rims do not sell medicines at discounted rates. The new store will reduce the dependency of patients on such stores,” it claimed.
The Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana Kendras aim to provide quality medicines at affordable prices to the masses through dedicated outlets operated under a tripartite agreement among the Centre, state, and local implementing agency whereas the Amrit Pharmacy would be operated by Central PSU HLL Lifecare Limited.
