Manipur Class XII examinee shot dead by 2 bike-borne assailants
Guwahati: A Class XII student, who was appearing in the ongoing Council of Higher Secondary Examinations, Manipur, (CoHSEM), was shot dead in Kangpokpi district of the northeastern state on Saturday night, police said on Sunday. The examinations will conclude on April 1 with a paper on elective subjects.
The incident assumed significance in the backdrop of the announcement made by the Centre and later by the Manipur government that the ‘Disturbed Area Status’ has been removed from four more police stations to take the total to 17 in the state in a bid to withdraw the “draconian” Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958, from these areas with effect from April 1. No police station in the Kangpokpi district was, however, included in the list where the status was removed.
The latest crime, according to the police, was committed by two bike-borne miscreants, who shot the 17-year-old at Motbung Bazar near his home.
