
The Budget Session of Parliament resumes at 11 am (File)
Opposition protests disrupted the ongoing Budget Session again today after the Parliament resumed at 11 am. Several Opposition parties have been demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into the Adani row. Moreover, the Congress has begun countrywide protests after party leader Rahul Gandhi was disqualified from Lok Sabha last week.

What Happened In Lok Sabha Today
Opposition members in Lok Sabha entered the Well of the House wearing black clothes and two Congress MPs threw papers at the Chair, leading to the adjournment of proceedings till 4 pm as ruckus persisted over Rahul Gandhi's disqualification and the Adani row.
As soon as the House met for the day, Congress members wearing black scarves trooped into the Well shouting slogans. Two Congress members, T N Pratapan and Hibi Eden, threw papers towards the Chair along with their scarves.
Congress leader Sonia Gandhi was seen wearing a black scarf while other members of her party wore black shirts. National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah was wearing a black kurta.
Amid the ruckus by Opposition members, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla adjourned proceedings of the House in less than a minute after it assembled for the Question Hour.

Opposition Leaders March To Vijay Chowk, Massive Security In Place


The Opposition leaders, wearing black to register their protest, marched to Vijay Chowk today and addressed a joint press conference. The Delhi Police has closed the road in front of Vijay Chowk and two layers of barricading has been imposed. More than a hundred cops and paramilitary jawans have been deployed outside the parliament. Police vans have also been stationed.

Mallikarjun Kharge Thanks Opposition Parties For Show Of Support

"All parties are concerned and have defended Rahul Gandhi. I want to thank them," said Leader of Opposition and Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge after 17 Opposition parties attended a strategy meeting in his chamber earlier in the day.


In a rare feat of Opposition unity, the Trinamool Congress, which said it will remain equidistant from the BJP and the Congress, today joined the big strategy meeting in the office of Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge.
17 Parties Attend Opposition Meet, Protest Planned At Gandhi Statue

Leaders of 17 Opposition parties attended a strategy meeting this morning at Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge's chamber in the Parliament building. These included the Congress, DMK, Samajwadi Party, Janata Dal (United), CPM, CPI, RJD, NCP, IUML, MDMK, Kerala Congress, Trinamool Congress, RSP, AAP, National Conference and Shiv Sena's Thackeray camp. The leaders have decided to stage a demonstration at the Gandhi statue in the parliament complex after the proceedings are adjourned.
