Ranchi: Flight operations at the Birsa Munda International Airport got a fillip with aircraft taking wing to three new destinations.
On Sunday, a direct service to Goa began while on Monday Ranchi will directly get connected to temple town Deoghar. On Tuesday, a flight to Jaipur,
Rajasthan has been scheduled, officials at Ranchi airport said.
While airport director K L Agarwal could not be reached on phone, an airport official said, “Goa, Deoghar and Jaipur are the new additions from Ranchi airport as part of the summer schedule. Indigo will operate a flight to Goa on three days a week — Sunday, Monday and Friday. From Goa it will reach Ranchi on these days at 6.15pm and depart at 6.45pm. Similarly, the airline will operate a 72-seater ATR to Deoghar on Monday. A flight from Kolkata will reach Ranchi at 3pm, and will depart for Deoghar at 3.25pm. For Jaipur, flights will be operated on three days — Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. From Jaipur, a flight will arrive at 9.05am and depart at 9.35am.”
Notably, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA)-approved domestic summer schedule has come into force from Sunday and will remain in force till October 28. It has approved flight services to six new destinations from Ranchi — Jaipur, Goa, Cochin, Mangalore, Visakhapatnam, Srinagar and Deoghar. Akasa, a new airline, has also got approval to operate flights from Ranchi to Jaipur, Hyderabad and Bangalore.
Another official said, “Although airlines have taken the DGCA approval actual operations depend on the respective airline based on the demand and logistic readiness among others.”
Currently, around 31 flights operate daily from Ranchi airport to destinations like Lucknow, Bengaluru, Pune, Kolkata, Delhi, Bhubneshwar, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Patna, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, and Chennai. Major operators include Indigo, Vistara, and Go First.
City’s backpackers are elated over the summer schedule. Food entrepreneur Rakhi Singh said, “A direct flight to Goa and Jaipur is a welcome step as many travellers from the state often head to those destinations round the year. We have planned a family trip to Goa this year and we can now directly fly to the beach city without having any hassles.”
