Dumka: The long cherished dream of the residents of Deoghar and adjoining parts of Santhal Pargana and Bihar to have direct air connectivity between the temple town and
Patna has finally been fulfilled.
After New Delhi and Kolkata, flight operations between the temple town and Patna started from Sunday with the maiden flight carrying altogether 12 passengers to Patna.
The 78-seater Indigo flight numbered 6E-7944/7945 arrived from Kolkata, took off from Deoghar airport at 11:15 am and reached the Jaiprakash Narayan International Airport Patna at 12:15.
The same flight took off at 12:35 pm from Jaiprakash Narayan International Airport and landed at Deoghar airport in its return journey at 1:35 pm carrying altogether 18 passengers.
Director of Deoghar Airport Sandeep Dhingra said that flights between Deoghar and Kolkata will be available on four days — Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
"Both the flights respectively from Deoghar and Patna will complete its one-way journey in one hour and is all set to become popular in the next few days," Dhingra said, adding that the bookings for the maiden flights of the Indigo career from both the sides started beforehand.
The airport director, however, said that it was due to the cancellation of the scheduled commencement of the air service between Deoghar and Patna for subsequent previous occasions that the passengers did not opt for the same this time as evident from the less number of passengers having availed of the facility on the maiden flights.
"As of now, the flight operations (between Deoghar and Patna) have already started. They will become popular in the next coming days," Dhingra said, adding that yet another Indigo career will start operating between Deoghar and Ranchi from Monday onwards.
