Jamshedpur: A 62-year-old woman was killed and her elderly companion injured following an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in the the Maoist-hit West Singhbhum on Saturday evening, police said.
The incident happened at Chiryabera village in Anjadbera Panchayat under the Muffasil police station limits. Police got to know about the blast and the casualties on early Sunday due to lack of modes of communication in the area, said police station in-charge Pawan Pathak.
The women were collecting dry leaves inside a forest area when Gurbari Tamsoy stepped on to the pressure-triggered IED causing the blast. She died on the spot. Gurbari’s companion Chandukui Soy suffered multiple injuries and is undergoing treatment at Chaibasa Sadar Hospital (CSH).
On Sunday morning, a police team went to the village and the injured was shifted to the hospital. The condition of the injured woman is stable, police said. B Sridhar
