‘We have received support from ministers, MLAs on various issues’

Margao: With assembly session beginning on Monday, the Leader of Opposition and Cuncolim MLA Yuri Alemao said that the opposition MLAs are ready to corner the government on issues concerning Goa.

He said that “facts on crores of rupees spent on self-glorification events and advertisements will come to the fore in the assembly session. It will expose the true face of the BJP government, which has curtailed the session instead of curtailing its wasteful expenditure.”

“We have already received support from some ministers and a few ruling MLAs who have publicly exposed the misdeeds of the government on drug trade, prostitution, dance bars, extortions, touts and other issues,” he said.

Alemao further said that replies to the legislative assembly questions (LAQ) will provide facts on the “failure of the BJP government to create employment opportunities, on disaster management, deliberate ignorance on Mhadei issue, failure to control price rise, fill up vacancies in government departments and above all details of the crores of rupees spent on events and publicity.”

As regards Cuncolim, he said issues of pollution and illegalities at Cuncolim industrial estate, healthcare facilities, traffic congestion, alignment of the National Highway passing through the constituency will be raised during the four-day session.

The legislator appealed to the beneficiaries of social welfare schemes, mid-day meal suppliers, para-teachers, sportspersons in indigent condition, contractors who have not received their payments for the past many months to keep a watch on the assembly proceedings. “They will know how the insensitive BJP government deprived them of their rightful timely financial assistance and monthly salaries and instead spent on self-glorification events and publicity stunts,” stated Alemao.

He said he had signed a calling attention on shack operators and urged other MLAs to keep aside their affiliation to their parties and support the cause of protecting traditional businesses of Goa.

“I have also assured the Scheduled Tribe community delegation which urged me to take up their issue of academic as well as political reservation. I have received various representations from persons with disabilities, women’s organisations, as well as Nagoa-Verna residents, Bhoma residents and others. I will ensure that their voices are heard in the assembly,” he said.
