Major Lucknow markets to be shifted to end congestion

LUCKNOW: To end the traffic woes and develop the city, the Lucknow Development Authority under the Master Plan 2031 for the city, is planning to shift major markets from congested areas and build a multi-modal logistics park in Mohanlalganj. Besides, a new transport city will also develop near Barabanki. The was informed by LDA vice-chairperson Indramani Tripathi during a city's logistics and master plan meeting at LDA headquarters in Gomtinagar on Saturday.

According to the Master Plan 2031, Tripathi said there is a proposal to develop multi modal logistics park (MMLP) around 135 hectare near Mohanlalganj in view of keeping future needs.
Officials said the infrastructure facilities in the logistics park would comprise storage facility, warehouse, handling area, parking area for trucks and other vehicles, equipment yards, cold storage, maintenance facilities, office space, open plots and support infrastructure like road, railways, water, sewerage, power and telecommunication.
Tripathi also said after redevelopment of the city's Transportnagar located on Kanpur road, it was also proposed in the master plan to develop a new Transport city around 100 acres of land in Barabanki. For the purpose, he said there would also be cold storage, loading and unloading parking bays, fuel stations and among other facilities. During the meeting, the VC directed officials to work on the plan to shift major markets from congested areas of the city from between the outer ring road to Shaheed Path. He said for this purpose representatives of concerned firms should consult with the officials of traffic police, stakeholders, vyapar mandal and authority and find the place after conducting a survey.

Meanwhile, on the issues of traffic jams and road accidents on Ayodhya and Kanpur road during no-entry, Tripathi directed officials to find adequate space to build parking lots and other facilities like restaurant, petrol pump and toilet so that there is no problem to commute.
Besides, he instructed the GST department to provide free space at Transportnagar for resolving traffic woes at Meerabai marg where long queues of goods vehicles are seen at the department's office during stock checking.
