The incident took place Saturday night in the Dangat Vasti area of Warje.Three minor girls and their mother were critically injured after they were attacked with iron rods by four friends of the girls’ brother who forced their way into their house in Pune’s Warje following their fight with him while playing hockey. The police have arrested three persons and have launched a manhunt for the fourth suspect.
The incident took place Saturday night in the Dangat Vasti area of Warje. An FIR in the case has been registered by the girls’ brother, Krishna Rakesh Sahani, 22, who is pursuing his bachelor’s degree at a college in Pune.
Krishna’s mother Sheela, 38, and his three sisters Khushi, 16, Mahima, 14, and Snehal, 10, are all currently being treated for their injuries at a hospital in Pune. The police said that Snehal’s condition was critical due to a brain haemorrhage and she was receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital.
Krishna has said in his complaint that he has known one of the accused, Ramnath Sahani, for the last four years since they started playing sports including cricket and hockey together.
Around 5.30 pm Saturday, Krishna and Ramnath were playing hockey along with five and six other friends. According to the FIR, following a disagreement while playing hockey, Ramnath and Krishna had a fight. Around 7.30 pm, Ramnath and Krishna again fought with each other in the Ganpati Matha area when they crossed paths.
Sometime later, Krishna got to know from some friends that Ramnath was talking about going to Krishna’s home to avenge the fight they had been having. Krishna called up his father and asked his father to tell family members at home not to open the door if Ramnath and others showed up.
The police probe suggests that Ramnath, his brother Ram and two other persons went to Krishna’s house. The four accused broke down the door and went on an attacking spree inside the house. They used iron rods to inflict multiple injuries on Krishna’s mother and three sisters. Hearing the screams from the house, neighbours rushed to check when the accused fled from the scene. The four injured were taken to a nearby hospital and later to Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, officials said.
Senior inspector DS Hake, in-charge of Warje Malwadi police station, said: “We have arrested three out of the four assailants and a search has been launched for the fourth. The condition of the 10-year-old injured girl is critical as she has suffered brain haemorrhage due to the injury.”
