Metro likely to run till Pune station in second phase

PUNE: The MahaMetro's plan to ready the stretch till Civil Court interchange station in the next two months is getting an upgrade as authorities plan to extend it till Ruby Hall Clinic station in the upcoming phase.
The revised plan will help commuters travel in the Metro up to two key stations RTO and Pune railway station. The upcoming phase is expected to be operational soon as MahaMetro is hoping to complete work by May.

The infrastructural work till Ruby Hall Clinic station has reached its final stages, officials said, adding that this has prompted the revision in its plan.
Safety inspections by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) will be conducted till Ruby Hall Clinic station.
A senior official from MahaMetro said: "Soon, we will conduct the trials of metro rakes from Civil Court to Ruby Hall Clinic station. This stretch has curves and bends as the viaduct is crossing the rail tracks and river as well. Trials will be held at slow and high speeds to check the curves and bending." The official added: "After inception of services, commuters getting down from the trains at the railway station will be able to avail Metro services to Kothrud, Paud Road, Pimpri and Deccan Gymkhana."
The MahaMetro has added that it is constructing a dedicated channel for seamless movement of commuters between railway and Metro services. "The railway foot overbridge will have direct access to the Metro's concourse level. The works are underway jointly with railway administration," an official said.
The MahaMetro has also constructed an additional track near the RTO station as a "pocket track", which will be utilized during breakdown of trains. This track is also getting ready, the official said.
