LUCKNOW: In yet another incident of road cave-in, two craters formed within a radius of 5 metre on the edge of the road connecting pavement near Samta Mulak crossing in Gomtinagar on Thursday night after portions on the stretch collapsed due to erosion by rainwater.
Locals said that two days had passed after the incident, but officials were in deep slumber as no barricading was done by the department concerned. They also alleged the use of substandard material in the construction of roads.

Civic issues like road cave-in if not attended urgently can lead to fatal accidents. Authorities need to come up with a mechanism to address such issues at the earliest as it is in the case of medical, law and order, and fire emergencies. Besides, there should be strict quality control measures.
The road comes under the jurisdiction of PWD and is the main road connecting the Kukrail flyover, Bhikhampur marg, Balmikinagar and other areas. It was the fourth road cave-in incident since November last year. "The material used was substandar," said Anup Srivastava of Gomtinagar
Executive engineer, PWD, Manish Verma denied that substandard quality material was used. He said that a team has been deployed and the road will be repaired within two days. "It had caved in due to heavy rains as water accumulated on the side of the road, causing leakage and subsequent collapse," he added.
