PATNA: Darbhanga district secretary of Vishwa Hindu Parishad Rajeev Kumar Madhukar was arrested by the police on Friday for allegedly attempting to disturb communal harmony in the town by putting up saffron flags and banners with 'Hindu Rashtra' written on them.
Sadar SDPO (Darbhanga) Amit Kumar said the banners and flags were put up in Maulaganj locality under the Laheriasarai police station area on March 22.
"The matter came to light on Thursday when the images of flags with 'Hindu Rashtra' written on them in Hindi letters went viral on the social media. We have registered an FIR against four named accused and over 100 unidentified people," the SDPO added. Madhukar has been booked under IPC sections 295A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and 298 (deliberate intent to wound the religious feelings).
The action was taken on the direction of Darbhanga DM Rajeev Roshan. Police removed the banners and flags which were put up near a temple in Maulaganj locality.
SHO of Laheriasarai police station Kirti Kumar said Madhukar was arrested on the basis of strong evidences against him. "Raids are being conducted to arrest the other accused," he added.
