Ranchi: The government has put the recruitment process for the schools of excellence and model schools on hold, after inviting applications last month.
School education and literacy department officials on Saturday said the move was necessitated in view of the 10% reservation for the economically weaker sections (EWS) candidates in district-level jobs notified by the state government last week. The department had started the process to hire 2,700 teachers on contractual basis for 414 schools in the state in the first phase. Of 414, 325 are schools of excellence and 89 are model schools.
Speaking to TOI, the administrative officer with the Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC), Jayant Mishra, said, “As mentioned in the previous letter from the JEPC to the district education officers and the superintendents regarding the appointment of teachers, the Jharkhand government’s reservation policy will have to be followed at the district level too. Hence, the March 17 government resolution that reserved 10% of seats for EWS during recruitment process has to be acted upon. Therefore, a fresh roster has to be prepared and so, the recruitment process has been halted for time being.”
The secretary in the department of school education and literacy, K Ravi Kumar, said, “Fresh guidelines related to the recruitment will be issued soon. The department is clarifying the norms that have to be followed during the recruitment process at schools of excellence and model schools across the state aimed at filling up the vacant positions on a short-term basis.”
The graduates and PGs would be appointed as contractual teachers based on an interview. Applications would be invited through readvertisements and the selection would be made by a panel appointed by district deputy commissioners.
Contractual teachers, who have bachelors’ degree as highest educational qualification, will get a monthly honorarium of Rs 26,250 while those with masters’ degree will get Rs 27,250. They will be hired for 11 months and their tenure will be subjected to extension, following performance evaluation.
