PANAJI: PWD minister Nilesh Cabral on Saturday said that he is aware of water supply shortage issues in different parts of the state at present. He said that his department is working on solutions in every area, and that from April 15, households can expect assured supply of four hours a day.
Cabral also said that the PWD's app to report potholes will soon have a provision to report water pipeline leakages as well.
He was interacting with members of village panchayats and municipalities across the state on Saturday, as part of an awareness drive to inform citizens about online services offered by the ministries under Cabral, including PWD, law and judiciary, and environment.
"By April 15, we will be able to sort out all the issues. At least for three to four hours of water will be supplied, that is my promise to everybody in the state. We are working in this direction. Later, we will work to give 24 hours water supply. But by April 15, we have tried to sort out some of the issues by putting in new pipelines, etc, and there will be a lot of improvement," Cabral said.
He also said that citizen response would be streamlined like it was done for the electricity department.
We have staff shortage, will resolve it with CM’s help’
Like we had done in the case of the electricity department, we have got permanent numbers for PWD officials, which will not change even if the person occupying the post is transferred. The phone number will remain with the post and not the person.
We will release the list of phone numbers this assembly session,” said Cabral. He said he is aware of acute water supply issues in areas like Pernem, Valpoi, and St Andre. “We have an app to report potholes, after which we fix these potholes with jetpatcher machines.
I request all swayampurna mitras and panchayat members to download the app. We will soon introduce a facility on the app to report water leakages also,” said Cabral. The minister said that his department is also facing staff shortage, which he is attempting to resolve with the chief minister. “It is a big department and it is not easy for me. We have a small shortage of staff. The required driving force is not there. I am sure with the guidance of the chief minister, we will resolve it,” he said
