In a first, tiger injures three people inside PTR
Daltonganj: The adult tiger that reportedly came from Chhattisgarh and roaming around in the Palamu Tiger Reserve since March 17 has injured three people in the north division of the reserve forest in the last two days, forest officials said on Saturday.
Of the three injured, one was injured on Friday and the rest on Saturday, the officials said.
“This is the first instance in PTR when a tiger has attacked humans. On Friday, the tiger hurt a man at Chungru village and even chased him but he managed to escape,” said deputy director of PTR Kumar Ashish. “The man is undergoing treatment,” he added.
On Saturday, the big cat injured two people, including a woman. One of the victims, Arvind Oraon, 30, of Amwatiker, was rushed to Rims, Ranchi, from the sadar hospital in Latehar district with a critical neck injury while the condition of the woman of Jobla village is not serious, the officials said, adding that the lack of prey has made tiger turn towards humans.
“The tiger is said to have climbed up a hillock at Kumandee currently and we are monitoring as to which side it comes down. We are vigilant and teams have been alerted,” Ashish added.
