HYDERABAD: With the completion of LB Nagar right hand side (RHS) flyover, residents in three areas in Uppal Zone can hope for hassle-free travel on arterial roads. With the completion of the latest flyover, all Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) phase-1 projects have been completed in a span of five years.
The LB Nagar right hand side (RHS) flyover, which has been named after Goddess Mal Maisamma, was inaugurated by municipal administration and urban development minister KT Rama Rao on Saturday. The LB Nagar Junction has been renamed as Srikantha Chary, Telangana martyr.

TOI looks at how the transformation took place over the years. These projects would also facilitate a hassle-free commute for travellers between Vijayawada and Hyderabad. In 2018, LB Nagar used to witness heavy vehicle congestion with traffic snarls sometimes up to Uppal corridor.
"Even the detour to avoid LB Nagar junction too became congested over the years and the need for flyovers has been a long pending project. I remember it being first proposed back in 2013," Ramalinga Reddy, a resident of Kothapet, said.
Raj Kumar Singh, a resident of Vanasthalipuram, recollects how the busy LB Nagar junction used to be notorious for poor traffic management in 2016. "The junction connects various arterial roads such as Inner Ring Road, Sagar Road and National Highway-65 (Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway) and it would take over 20 minutes to cross the junction. It would get worse in the night when long-distance buses transit the route," he added.
Nine projects have been completed during the last five years under SRDP, giving the area a quick facelift.
Some important flyovers and elevated corridors in the area, such as the Chintalkunta flyover, LB Nagar underpasses and flyovers and the Dilsukhnagar flyover played a crucial role in regulating traffic flow.
Apart from that, widening several roads in LB Nagar, including the LB Nagar-Mansoorabad road, the LB Nagar-Vanasthalipuram road, and the LB Nagar-Nagole road, reduced the travel time for commuters.
