Tushar Gandhi Slams Manoj Sinha for Saying M.K. Gandhi Didn't Have a Degree

Tushar Gandhi said on Sinha's statement, "If ignorant people are made governors, this will be the result."

New Delhi: Tushar Gandhi, the great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, has rubbished Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s claim that the Father of the Nation did not have a single university degree.

Tushar Gandhi said on Twitter, “M. K. Gandhi passed 2 Matrics 1 from Alfred High School Rajkot, 2nd it’s equivalent in London, British Matriculation. He acquired, by studying & passing exams a Law Degree from Inner Temple, a law College affiliated to London University & simultaneously got two diplomas one in Latin the other in French. Issued to educate the Deputy Governor of J&K.”

Talking to Dainik Bhaskar, Tushar Gandhi said on Sinha’s statement, “If ignorant people are made governors, this will be the result. He [M.K. Gandhi] had a law degree, but it was definitely not an entire law degree. Like Modi ji has an entire law degree in political science.”

He further told the newspaper that Bapu has written everything about his education in his autobiography. He said he would send a copy of this to Manoj Sinha.

Sinha had talked about Gandhi’s educational qualifications during the Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Memorial Lecture at ITM Gwalior on March 24.

According to news agency ANI, he had said, “It is a misconception that Gandhiji had a law degree. Do you know that he did not have a single university degree? His only qualification was a high school diploma. He was qualified to practice law, but did not have a law degree. He did not have any degree, but he was so educated.”

He had said, “Gandhi did a lot for the country, but whatever was achieved, the centre point of it was truth. If we look at all the aspects of his life, there was nothing but truth in his life. No matter how many challenges, Mahatma Gandhi never abandoned the truth and recognised his inner voice. As a result, he became the father of the nation.”

Condemning Sinha’s remarks, Tushar Gandhi tweeted, “I have dispatched a copy of Bapu’s Autobiography to Rajbhavan Jammu with the hope that if the Deputy Governor can read he will educate himself.”

Bharat Rashtra Samithi’s social media head Y. Satish Reddy tweeted, “J&K Lt Governor says, Mahatma Gandhi had no degree, Can someone please educate his ignorance that, Gandhi ji was a barrister & studied law from University College, London!”

AAP MLA Naresh Balyan said, “How come these people do stupid things even after holding such a high position? Someone tell the Lieutenant Governor that Gandhiji was a barrister and had studied law from London.”

Congress leader K.K. Mishra said, “The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation, did not get his degree through Vyapam, whose degrees are in discussion. Say something on them? Those who don’t even come up till Gandhi’s knees, should they question Gandhi? Didn’t they go abroad for bomb-making training?”
