Centre approves construction of bypass road in Odisha's Nabarangpur
BHUBANESWAR: Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari on Sunday announced that a sum of Rs 169.2 crore has been sanctioned for the construction of a bypass to Nabarangpur town on NH-26.
The fund has been sanctioned for construction and land acquisition in the district. This project will cover a distance of 9.1 km. It will be completed under the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) mode.
Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan said progress of Odisha remains a top priority for the Modi government. “I thank prime minister Narendra Modi and Union minister Nitin Gadkari for sanctioning funds for this project. This will help ease traffic on NH-26 and enable smooth mobility for daily commuters,” he added.
Former Nabarangpur MP Balabhadra Majhi said this bypass road will start from Daibhata and end at Patramunda. It will reduce the traffic burden on Nabarangpur town. “The NH26 is very narrow at some places in the town. The stretch starting from Jagannath Mandir to Ram Mandir is crowded and narrow. The heavy traffic gives a tough time to vehicles to pass the town,” he added.
He said the bypass will solve the long-pending problem of traffic jams and the problem of road accidents. “Now people, who do not have work in the town, can bypass it and save their precious time. Heavy vehicles which do not have loading or unloading work in the town can use the bypass road,” he added.
He said daily commuters will get respite from traffic jams. “When I was the MP of Nabarangpur, I had tried to start the project. Finally, the fund has been sanctioned. It will see the light of the day,” said Majhi.
