Surat: Five people including former Congress councillor Aslam Cyclewala were booked by the Limbayat on Thursday for allegedly forcing and threatening an insurance verification agent to get a mediclaim approved.
Cyclewala, however, claimed that he was being framed wrongly in the incident that took place in November 2022.
Apart from Cyclewala, the police booked Aaftab Patel,
Saddam, Sharif and Mohsin Shah under various sections of Indian Penal Code including wrongful confinement, confinement to extort confession, extortion, forgery and others.
The complaint in this regard was lodged by Kishan Rangwani, an employee in a verification agency that works for general insurance companies.
In his complaint, Rangwani alleged that he was thrashed and forced to help the accused in getting approval for mediclaim in November 2022. Rangwani went to meet a claimant in Limbayat and completed the process as per the rules when Aftab and Saddam intervened and pressured him to follow their instructions.
Rangwani alleged that he was told by the accused that Cyclewala takes such work to get mediclaims approved and he has asked them to get the claim approved. “I was not present at the spot and as part of political vendetta I am being targetted. I am not involved in any such activity,” Cyclewala told TOI.
Cyclewala was Congress candidate from Surat East seat in 2022 assembly election.
