Thane: Two people suffered injuries after an attendant at a civic car parking lot lost control while manoeuvring out a car at the newly inaugurated public parking facility at Gaondevi area, late Thursday evening, police informed.
According to the Naupada police that registered a case, the 30-year-old attendant, employed by the contractor, was tasked to drive a parked car out of the underground lot.
“As he brought the car outside the lot, he accidentally stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake following which the vehicle raced on to the main road and crashed into a car and two bikers, before jumping on the footpath and grinding to a halt. One of the bikers suffered a fracture to his limbs while a vendor operating on the footpath suffered minor injuries,” informed a Naupada police official. The police have booked the attendant under relevant sections of IPC.
Meanwhile, local residents and activists have demanded more safety measures to be taken at the facility and also outside the plaza considering the possible congestion on narrow alleys at the entry-exit points. The public parking lot houses over 250 vehicles at one time.
