Police officers responded to a homicide shortly before 6:30 p.m. Friday near a cemetery in Uptown Charlotte.

Detectives said a passerby tried to help someone who was on the ground in the 700 block of West Ninth Street, CMPD said.

The man in his late-20s or early-30s died from traumatic injuries at the scene, but CMPD didn’t say how he died.

The area of the investigation was near The Music Factory but police do not think it’s connected.

“I do not believe at this time that there is any indication that the person was visiting any of the nearby locations, such as The Music Factory,” said CMPD Maj. Ryan Jackson.

The investigation is ongoing.
