PRAYAGRAJ: Students of class one and two of the government run primary schools will be taught from the books of National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) from the next academic session i.e. 2024-25.
This will be done after adding the characteristics and dialects of Uttar Pradesh to the books of the NCERT. Earlier it was deliberated to introduce these books from the coming academic session (2023-24), which was in accordance with the New Education Policy (2020), but in view of the time taken to adapt to these books by the students of the state, it has been decided to conduct studies only through the books already running in this session.
“Following the recent decision of the state cabinet, the books for class 1 and 2 would be changed from next year. These books will be based on NCERT pattern and designed to impart knowledge and information about Uttar Pradesh”, said Director General School Education Vijay Kiran Anand while talking to TOI.
He further informed that the State Institute of Education (SIE), Alanganj will first prepare NCERT’s Hindi book ‘Rimjhim’ to be taught in class one from the perspective of UP and then other subjects will be customised. “We will customise the book for Hindi and Maths subjects of class 1 and 2 and the same would be provided to the students from 2024-25 academic session”, said the DG, Education.
For example, if there is mention of travel to Kerala in the NCERT book, then there will be a description of travel to Banaras or Lucknow in the book that will be customized by SIE.
Sources inform that after getting the
budget in the annual action plan of Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, the work of customizing the books according to UP will start. SIE is already preparing a dictionary of Bhojpuri, Awadhi, Braj and Bundelkhandi languages. A workbook will also be made for the children.
In the new session, starting from April 1, the students of classes one and two of government primary schools may have to wait for a while for new books. The books for class three will reach the districts by the end of March. The work order for class one and two books will be issued this week and the books will start arriving by the third week of April.
