LUDHIANA: Sidhwan Bet police have arrested a man for a murder bid after he allegedly dragged an elderly person on the bonnet of a car for 50-60 metres, leaving him seriously injured. The accused was identified as Surinder Singh of Talwandi Khurd.
In his complaint, Karamjeet Singh, son of 63-year-old victim Vishakha Singh of Talwandi Khurd, claimed Surinder had a shop in front of their clothing store in Sawaddi Kalan village. While Vishakha’s shop has been doing well, the accused wasn’t doing too good, which is why he kept a grudge against them. He alleged in the past too, the accused has abused them on many occasions.
He said on March 18, his father was going to the medical store to buy medicines in the evening when Surinder started to abuse him. Karamjeet said Surinder attacked his father with a sharp-edged object. Wwhen his father resisted, the accused tried to mow him under an SUV. His father held on to the bonnet of the vehicle. The accused dragged his father for about 50-60 metres. He added that many people gathered after hearing cries of his father. But instead of stopping the vehicle, the accused pressed the accelerator. The victim could not hold on to the bonnet and came under the car.
Karamjit said his father suffered injury on his hip, and fractured three ribs of his chest. He added that his father is undergoing treatment at a hospital where his condition is serious. The complainant said since his father’s condition was critical, they recorded the statement to police recently.
