‘Land acquisition for KTU headquarters on right track’
Thiruvananthapuram: The APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU) has said that the acquisition of 100 acres of land in Vilappil panchayat for the construction of university headquarters and campus is progressing at a fast pace.
The state government had issued the first notification for land acquisition on June 27, 2020. In the first phase, 50 acres of the land was acquired by the district collector after paying Rs 185 crore in compensation to 135 land owners from the university’s own fund.
Manuel Neshan, one of the 68 landowners of the remaining 50 acres of land, had filed a complaint with the Human Rights Commission demanding that the compensation sum be made available immediately. The government has decided to allocate Rs 204 crore through KIIFB for the acquisition of this 50-acre plot of land, and the procedures are moving quickly.
The KIIFB board meeting held on February 27 has approved the decision. Subsequently, the university syndicate meeting held on March 23 also decided to transfer this sum to the revenue department as soon as the fund is available and to acquire the remaining 50 acres of land by April 26. TNN
