Four held for attempting to murder youth
Coimbatore: Four people were arrested on Friday night for attempting to murder a youth over a business rivalry on Marudhamalai Road at Vadavalli here on Wednesday night.
The Vadavalli police identified the arrested people as Ashwin of Sowripalayam, his friends Kannan, of Palayamkottai; Anandbab, of Nagarajapuram; and Muthaiah, of Nanguneri in Tirunelveli district. According to a police officer, the four-member gang brutally attacked B Chiranjeevi, 26, of Somayampalayam, who suffered injuries to his head, shoulders, wrists, abdomen, hip and ankles.
“Chiranjeevi and Ashwin were close friends. A money lender, Ashwin provides loans against cars to their owners. He will keep the cars until the owners return the borrowed amount. Ashwin pledged a car to Chiranjeevi, who sold the same for Rs3 lakh without his knowledge. When Ashwin asked him to return the car, Chiranjeevi refused,” the officer said.
Ashwin then approached his friends and they invited Chiranjeevi to a place near Vadavalli to sort out the issue. “When Chiranjeevi went there, the four thrashed him. Chiranjeevi was admitted to a private hospital in an unconscious state,” the officer said.
On Friday morning, Chiranjeevi’s father Balamurugan, 52, lodged a complaint with the Vadavalli police, who registered a case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code and arrested the four at night.
