PANAJI: Goa BJP president Sadanand Shet Tanavade on Saturday said that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s mindset is attuned not to “Bharat Jodo” but to “Bharat Todo”.
Tanavade said it appeared to him that even the Congress wanted Gandhi disqualified, given that the party has not yet challenged the disqualification in the Supreme Court.
“The question arises whether the Congress wanted Gandhi to be disqualified,” Tanavade said. He said the Congress should accept the court’s order instead of kicking up a fuss. “Gandhi habitually makes controversial statements,” Tanavade said.
Referring to the ordinance mooted by the UPA when it was in power, which would have prevented the immediate disqualification of convicted legislators, Tanavade said, “Gandhi had wanted that ordinance torn. He would have benefited from that ordinance today.”
Tanavade said that the Congress should not attack the BJP over the court’s decision. He also said that he has suffered harassment from the Congress. He added that Gandhi can approach a higher court to challenge the verdict in the defamation case. “Without doing this, the Congress is only making allegations against the BJP,” he said.
Reacting to the statement of the Congress that the BJP has “murdered democracy”, Tanavade said that in reality, the Congress has done so and therefore does not have the right to speak about democracy.
