60-year-old given life in jail till last breath

RAJKOT: A 60-year-old man was sentenced to life imprisonment till death for raping his distant neice by frightening her with the wrath of a deity considered to be a fierce form of Lord Shiva.
Additional district sessions judge J D Suthar on Friday sentenced Yogesh alias Bhikhu Kubavat who had cheated the woman into having sexual relations with him saying that he was possessed with the deity whose fury needs to be calmed.
According to the case detail, the rape survivor's husband was making heavy losses in his business for a long time in 2018. The accused somehow convinced her that the deity is furious with her and the family’s difficulties would only worsen. The accused told her that his wife also believes in this ritual. Later, he had sexual intercourse with the survivor twice, that too in the presence of his wife, prosecution said.
However, when the woman did not notice any improvement in her husband’s business, she told him about the fury of the deity. Her husband took her to the police station and registered a complaint against Kubavat and his wife.
District government pleader S K Vora argued that the accused is a cousin uncle of the victim and she is a mother of two. Therefore, there is no reason for her to make false allegations. He said "At the end of hearing, the court sentenced him to life imprisonment till last breath but acquitted his wife"
