Ludhiana: Ludhiana rural police have booked a woman, her father and two others for cheating after she went to
Canada taking money from her in-laws but refused to call her husband to the country. The accused were identified as Lakhbir Kaur of Ranguwal village, her father Suba Singh, Bakhshish Singh and Jagdev Singh.s
In his complaint to police, Nirmal Singh, a resident of Aman Park, New Rajguru Nagar, Ludhiana, claimed that his son Gursewakpal Singh got married to Lakhbir Kaur, currently a resident of Canada. He said they had borne all the expenses of her Canada journey, but Lakhbir refused to call Gursewak to Canada once she reached there.
He claimed that under a conspiracy, she along with her father got her police clearance done from her village in which panchayat members Bakhshish Singh and Jagdev Singh supported them. He said as Lakhbir was married, her PCC verification was bound to be done from her in-laws’ house in Ludhiana, but she did not register her husband Gursewakpal Singh’s name in her PCC documents, nor did she inform about her marriage.
Police officials said during investigation, it was found that Lakhbir wanted to have her PCC and she could get a permanent resident status in Canada without her husband. They said Nirmal Singh’s complaint was investigated by a senior police officer who recommended registration of an FIR.
Cops said after investigation, a case was registered against Lakhbir Kaur, her father Suba Singh and panchayat members Bakhshish Singh and Jagdeep Singh at Jodhan police station on charges of cheating and conspiracy.
