Thane: Three drug pushers have been arrested for allegedly possessing Mephedrone (MD) powder worth over Rs 10 lakh.
The police said constable Shivaji Wasarvad got the information that some peddler was to come near Dahisar mori village’s Vipul lodge. Hence, the police who had a vague description of the accused trapped him.
He has been identified as Gulam Shaikh alias Qamar, 20, a resident of Thakurpada.
“Upon carrying out the body search, we found nearly 55.5gm Mephedrone powder worth Rs 2.35 lakh in the market,” said a police officer. Qamar was booked under relevant sections of the NDPS Act at Shil Daighar police station.
During the probe it was found that he had purchased the MD powder from one Mohammad Shaikh alias Papa, 45, who under the guise of selling diapers sells drugs to the addicts. The police recovered another 60gm MD powder from him.
During the interrogating he named the third person as Wasim Lala, 27, a resident of Khoni village from whom he had got the MD powder and the sleuths seized from him nearly 12gm MD powder.
The police said that further investigation in the case is underway and it is likely that there could be more takers from the accused.
