NOIDA: A 28-year-old man suffered burn injuries in the neck and hands after his colleague hurled a bottle full of acid at him outside their office in Sector 67 on Tuesday evening.
The accused, Lalit, was arrested on Thursday from near the Transport Nagar roundabout after the man he attacked was discharged from hospital and he lodged a police complaint. Doctors said Karan was stable now.
Police said a dispute over a woman in the office of a logistics company appeared to have triggered the attack. On Tuesday evening, Karan was waiting outside the office when Lalit walked up to him with a bottle of acid he procured from a battery shop and hurled the contents at him.
"We got information that there had been an acid attack in Sector 67. A police team was sent to the spot and they found that a man had attacked his colleague. We took the injured man to hospital and got him admitted. When doctors declared he was stable, we registered an FIR under Section 326B (voluntarily throwing or attempting to throw acid, etc) of the IPC against his co-worker," said Amit Pratap Singh, ACP-I, central Noida.
Preliminary investigation revealed that ties between the two - both work as labourers - turned testy when Karan became friends with a woman in the office.
"We have come to know that Lalit did not like Karan talking too much with the woman. There had been a few verbal arguments between them in the past. On Tuesday evening, he threw acid at him in a fit of rage. We have arrested Lalit. The woman's statements are also being recorded. Further investigation is underway and action will be taken accordingly," said Singh on Thursday.
