Belagavi: In the wake of upcoming assembly elections, the district administration has established 24 checkposts at the inter-state borders. According to election officer Nitesh Patil, 20 checkposts have been established on the Karnataka-Maharashtra border and four on Goa border. Patil has instructed local authorities to remove posters, banners and other materials used for publicity by the political parties, installed without permission. He also asked officials to collect vacating charges from the political leaders concerned.
According to the DC, permission will be granted to the political parties to run campaigns through single-window system, once the election code of conduct comes into force. The government officials have also been told to stay away from promoting or demoting any political party or candidate through social media or participating in campaigns directly or indirectly.
Basavaraj Nalatwad, deputy director of the department of school education and literacy, circulated the guidelines for all the government educational institutions in the district. He stated that any school or office building cannot be used for election purposes without permission. Action will be taken if volations are found, he said.
