AIZAWL: The election department in Mizoram has deleted names of 4,318 Bru voters, who have settled permanently in neighbouring
Tripura, from the state's voters' list, a top state election department official said on Thursday.
Joint chief electoral officer David Liansanglura Pachuau told TOI that 3,911 Bru voters' names received from Tripura state election commission for corresponding deletion request were removed from the Mizoram electoral rolls.
Pachuau said names of 407 Bru voters were also deleted from the state electoral rolls after receipt of scanned forms from Tripura. These 4,318 Bru voters were already enrolled on Tripura electoral rolls and were sent for deletion through the ERONet, he said.
He added that 6,084 Bru voters' names were yet to be deleted though they had already resettled in Tripura as the receipt of corresponding request for deletion through the ERONet has been extremely sluggish.
"We are planning to go to Agartala to hold a meeting with the Tripura state election commission officials and sort out the voters' deletion imbroglio on the spot to ensure that all the names of Bru voters are deleted before the state assembly elections," the CEO said.
