PRAYAGRAJ: To promote Sanskrit language, the secondary education department has sent a proposal to the state government seeking Rs 131 crore to enhance scholarship/stipend for students of state-run, aided and self-financed Sanskrit schools and colleges.
The scholarship would be given to all students from class 6 to postgraduate level. So far, only a few students were given scholarship and the amount was also meagre.
The proposal has been sent to the government on behalf of director of secondary education Mahendra Dev and is expected to be approved soon.
At present, students studying Sanskrit in any institution get a scholarship of only Rs 50 to 120 per month.
As per the present practice, scholarship was given to 125 students of Purva Madhyama (classes 9 and 10), 90 of Uttar Madhyama (classes 11 and 12), 48 of Shastri (graduation) and only 25 of
Acharya (postgraduate) in the entire state. Now, the proposal intends to increase the scholarship amount to study the ancient language. Not only this, now all students will be provided with a stipend/scholarship ranging from Rs 300 to Rs 2100, as per the percentage of marks and course he or she is pursuing.

Also, there is a proposal to give scholarships only to those who get more than 60% marks in Shastri (undergraduate) and Acharya (postgraduate). Students living in hostels from Prathma to Uttar Madhyama will get Rs 1,800 per month while students of Shastri, Acharya and Shiksha shastri will get Rs 3,000 per month.
As per the proposal 12696 students of Pratham (6, 7 and 8) would be given monthly stipend of Rs 300 to 350 (based on the percentage of marks). Likewise, for Purv Madhyamik (9 and 10) there are 41578 students who would be paid stipend of Rs 500 to 550. For Uttar Madhyama (11 and 12), there are 45307 students who will be getting a monthly amount of Rs 600 to 650.
