UPDATE: Mar. 24, 2023, 5:00 a.m. EDT This story has been updated with the latest and greatest laptop deals. Here's a quick look:

The only thing better than a great laptop is a great laptop that's within your budget. Nowadays, even cheap PCs pack the specs to help you tackle whatever's on your to-do list, whether it's work, school assignments, watching Netflix, or just endlessly browsing social media. If you're looking to pick up a new laptop (but don't necessarily want to wipe your savings account in one go), we're compiling a weekly list of the best deals on laptops across major retailers right here. Read on for our top picks as of March 24 (categorized by price, then listed in alphabetical order).

Laptop deals under $300

This is prime territory for entry-level Chromebooks with Intel Celeron N Series processors, embedded MultiMediaCard (eMMC) flash storage, and 11- to 14-inch displays that are geared toward light multitasking.

Why we like it

It's nothing special spec-wise, but this 14-inch ASUS E410 laptop is sitting at an incredibly tempting price point for casual web-surfers after a $170 discount at Best Buy(Opens in a new tab). (It also comes with a free month's worth of Xbox Game Pass, though we wouldn't recommend playing any games on it besides The Sims or Minecraft on low graphics settings.) It's now only $5 more expensive than another E410 configuration(Opens in a new tab) with half the storage capacity and a worse CPU.

Laptop deals under $600

A bit of a catch-all, this price range often includes bare-bones gaming laptops, upgraded Chromebooks, and 2-in-1 PCs with solid-state drive (SSD) storage and 15- to 17-inch displays.

Why we like it

Featuring a beefy 512GB of storage, this 15-inch HP laptop from 2022 comes with a micro-edge touchscreen display, fast-charging technology that juices it up to 50% battery in 45 minutes, and Windows 11 Home in S mode. This is a variant of the operating system that only lets you install apps from the Microsoft Store — it's a great option for kids and students, as it keeps things secure and speedy. Best Buy(Opens in a new tab) has it marked down to $429.99, which is $200 off its suggested retail price of $629.99 (and almost $40 better than Walmart's sale pricing(Opens in a new tab)).

Think Samsung Galaxy Books, Microsoft Surface Laptops, and older-generation Apple MacBook Airs on sale.

Why we like it

It's baaack: The base configuration of the 13-inch MacBook Air from 2020 has returned to its record-low price of $799.99 on Amazon(Opens in a new tab) (or about $200 off its usual retail price of $999). This is the one with an M1 chip, a sleek fanless design, and an 18-hour battery life — you may recall it nabbing a Mashable's Choice Award upon release.

Here's where you'll find souped-up gaming laptops from Dell and ASUS, newer Apple MacBooks, and other workhorses with couple-hundred-dollar discounts.

Why we like it

For creatives in need of a powerful and portable workstation, last year's XPS 13 Plus is a premium 13-inch laptop with an OLED touchscreen display, an edge-to-edge flush keyboard, and a unique row of capacitive function buttons that's reminiscent of the MacBook Touch Bar. Our friends at PCMag(Opens in a new tab) (which is owned by Mashable's publisher, Ziff Davis) praised its "elegant futuristic design" and "speedy overall performance," calling out an overly sensitive touchpad and an MIA headset jack as its only notable flaws.

The 512GB configuration with 16GB of RAM and an Intel Core i7-1260P processor typically retails for $1,849, but the Dell website(Opens in a new tab) has it on clearance for $1,349 and throws in a free $100 gift card — that's a $600 savings overall.

Frequently Asked Questions

Mashable's favorite all-round budget laptop is currently the ASUS VivoBook 15, a lightweight PC with a fingerprint sensor, a nice keyboard, a fast-charging feature, and a decently zippy processor. Amazon(opens in a new tab) happened to have it on sale for $339 at the time of writing (a 13% discount on its $389.99 MSRP), but we recommend hesitating before you smash "Add to Cart": It's been even cheaper there before.

There are several times a year when we see new record-low prices on laptops:

  • Around Amazon Prime Day, which generally happens in early July

  • During back-to-school sales in July and August

  • When retailers' Black Friday and holiday deals are in full swing from October to December

  • Whenever manufacturers announce next-generation models

With that in mind, keep an eye out for some additional price drops on older MacBooks as Apple embraces its M2 Pro and M2 Max chip era. More deals on more Galaxy Books are also inevitable now that Samsung's rolled out its new Galaxy Book3s.
