NOIDA: The UP government is planning to set up Driving Training Centres (DTC) in Noida and Ghaziabad among other districts of the state. The training is aimed to help people who want to learn driving and get a license.
Private firms will be engaged for the purpose of the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model where candidates will be given professional training at a nominal cost.
The DTCs will provide driving lessons for heavy, medium and light motor vehicles, refresher courses, night and hill driving, wet weather driving, fire hazard training on vehicles, and lessons for vehicles carrying dangerous or hazardous goods, explosives, etc. The training will also raise awareness about road accidents, traffic pollution and the environment.
The course fee will range from Rs 500 to Rs 10,000 and the duration will be one day to six weeks.
Siyaram Verma, assistant regional transport officer (ARTO – administration) , Gautam Budh Nagar, said that setting up driving training centres is an important project of the government. “This aims to train the younger generation for safe driving. The transport department invites applications from interested private firms to set up such centres on the PPP model,” he said.

The state government has already set up DTCs in 17 districts including Varanasi, Mirzapur, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Basti, Aligarh, Mathura, Raebareli, etc. Noida issues around 5,000 applications for driving licences while Ghaziabad issues 6,000 applications per month.
As per terms and conditions, the applicant/firm must have an annual turnover of Rs 2 crore. The centre should be within ten kilometres from a National Highway or State Highway and should be equipped with strong internet. One applicant can be given a maximum of two centres in one region.
