Police to go for ‘tower dump’ method to identify accused
Thiruvananthapuram: Even after examining over hundred CCTV footages, the Pettah police could not yet identify the accused who sexually assaulted a woman at Pattoor on March 13.
Due to this the investigating officers have decided to go for ‘tower dump’ to unearth the identity of the accused who is still at large. The decision over this was taken after the police found in the CCTV footage that the accused was speaking to someone over the phone just minutes after the assault.
“Tower dump analysis is done using a desktop-based application and it works on the principle of analysing the call data in a particular tower. We have identified the tower and the time at which the call was made using the CCTV footage. We will have to take the data of all the calls and by analysing the data using the application we will be able to get some clues,” said the probe officer.
In the CCTV footage the accused can be seen attending a phone call while driving the two-wheeler with one hand a few kilometres from the crime spot. This took place minutes after the crime and the police believe that through ‘tower dump’ they can make a breakthrough in the case. The probe officer said that the software used for the analysis is based on big data technology and it is capable of analysing thousands of data in a few seconds.
The police have collected numbers of all habitual offenders, especially those who were involved in molesting, sexual attack, rape etc, to check whether they were present in the tower limits during the crime. The probe officers have also sent the images of the suspects to the victim to identify them. However, the complainant could not identify any of them so far.
