GUWAHATI: A local court here has sent the six teachers, who were arrested by the CID in connection with the Class X board exam question paper leak case from Lakhimpur district, to six-day police custody.
The accused have been identified as Jagannath Pegu, Purnakanta Pegu, Tutu Sarma, Jatin Doley and Ananta Doley. They were arrested on Tuesday and were produced before a court on Wednesday.
A total of 37 people, including at least 15 minors, have been arrested in connection with the case so far in the state. The mastermind of the case - headmaster of the Luhit Khabolu High School Pranab Dutta and Kumud Rajkhowa, science teacher of another school - are currently under 10-day police custody.
The board of the secondary education, Assam (Seba) on March 12 cancelled the general science examination, which was supposed to be held on the next day, after images of the question paper went viral on social media and WhatsApp groups.
The CID registered a case and during its initial probe, it found that the link of the question paper leak to Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Lakhimpur, Majuli and Dhemaji.
The Seba had to cancel the exam of Modern Indian Languages/ English (in lieu) subjects, which were supposed to be held on March 18, following the leak of Assamese question paper on March 17. Seba rescheduled the general science exam on March 30 and the MIL/ English (in lieu) exam on April 1.
