The Beaumont Foundation of America announced its 2023 recipients for the Wayne A. Reaud Excellence in Education Award.

Sixteen teachers across Region 5 were chosen, representing Jefferson, Hardin, Orange, Newton, Jasper and Tyler counties, the foundation announced in late March.

The award, established in 2009, recognizes and celebrates "superior contributions of teachers whose leadership and dedication inspire a spirit of learning in students of all backgrounds and learning abilities," according to the foundation's website.

Each recipient is honored at an annual awards gala and receives $10,000, a crystal obelisk and a portrait.

To be eligible, a candidate must have five years of teaching experience, be a full-time teacher at a public or non-public school within Jefferson, Hardin, Orange, Newton, Jasper or Tyler counties, and has to complete the nomination andĀ application packet by the fall deadline.

Other eligibility criteria include dedication, knowledge and skill; a distinguishable classroom practice that's been demonstrated; professionalism and collegiality and contribute to the wider school community, amongst other attributes, according to the foundation.

Teachers cannot self-nominate for the award and previous winner are not eligible again.

After an extensive selection process, around 15 teachers -- typically five from each level -- are chosen to receive the award.

The 2023 award recipients are:

Elementary School

Middle School

High School
