NAGPUR: Municipal commissioner and administrator Radhakrishnan B will present NMC’s draft
budget for the next financial year on Friday. Sources said that Radhakrishnan is expected to create a history by presenting NMC administration’s highest ever revenue figures, close to Rs3,200 crore, for the year 2023-24.
The budget will have no revision in existing taxes being imposed by the civic body, said sources. Besides this, citizens’ suggestions which were invited by NMC’s finance and accounts department have been included in the NMC budget for the first time. Around 100-odd suggestions were received by the civic body. Of which Radhakrishnan has included some in his budget, said sources.
Radhakrishnan will be presenting the budget for the second consecutive year as administrator. Along with the proposed budget for 2023-24, Radhakrishnan will also present a revised budget for the last financial year (2022-23).
The civic chief is supposed to present the NMC’s proposed budget by the first week of February every year. Though delayed by almost two months, sources said Radhakrishnan may not introduce any new taxes or increase property tax.
In its last budget, the administration had expected over 67% income as grants from the state government. Sources pointed out this year too, the NMC’s budget may continue to depend on government grants.
Radhakrishnan’s proposed NMC budget for 2022-23 was Rs2,684.69 crore. The general body was dissolved in March 2022 after its tenure ended, but the civic elections were delayed by almost over a year, so there was no revision of the administration’s budget, which was done by the standing committee chairman.
