Canacona: Drivers and helpers of Balrath school buses have called off their strike after chief minister Pramod Sawant assured them of meeting their demands of wage hike.
Under the banner of All Goa United Balarath Employees Union, nearly 850 drivers and helpers of Balrath buses had threatened to go on strike from March 27 onwards if their demands are not considered.
Swati Kerkar, a trade union functionary, said the chief minister assured them of enhancing their remuneration and considering other demands too. “With this, we have called off the strike,” she said.
Currently, the drivers are getting Rs 11,000 per month and conductors Rs 5,500 per month and they are paid for 10 months and not for 12.
She said if their demands are not considered, they will not hesitate to go on a strike.
