GURGAON: A woman was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly running an illegal clinic when she carried out illgal termination of pregnancies in Jyoti Park. She, police said, charged Rs 1,500 for carrying out one abortion. She was nabbed following a raid by the health department and police.
This is the third such case in a week. An illegal hospital and a clinic were busted in Sohna on Monday and Tuesday.
On Wednesday, the health department received information that Kusum Tuteja was running Om Clinic near Geeta Ashram without any valid medical degree or training, thus endangering the lives of women.
Medical officer Dr Harish Kumar formed a team and a pregnant woman was sent to the clinic as a decoy. "When the decoy went to the Om Clinic, the quack was attending to other patients. The decoy told her that she is two months pregnant and wants to abort the child. The quack then asked some questions regarding her pregnancy and then asked for Rs 1,500 for the termination process," Kumar said in his complaint at the New Colony police station.
When asked about her medical qualification, "Tuteja disclosed that she was only a 10th grader and had experience working as a midwife. Her clinic was not registered as per the norm," added the medical officer.
Based on his complaint, the quack was booked under IPC sections 336 (whoever does any act so rashly or negligently as to endanger human life or the personal safety of others) and 420 (cheating), sections 3, 4 and 5 of the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, Section 34 of the National Medical Commission Act and the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
"The quack has been arrested. Police are carrying out further investigation in the case," said police spokesperson Subhash Boken.
