Ruckus delays exam at MSU German dept
Vadodara: A major ruckus took place at the German department of M S University’s (MSU) Faculty of Arts on Thursday morning. Students of the department were involved in a scuffle with the varsity’s security and vigilance personnel at the entrance gate of the department ahead of exams there. The department is conducting its semester examinations and students were to take a dictation exam on Thursday when a group of students locked the gate of the department. They were protesting against the paucity of teachers in the department that has only one full-time teacher and two visiting lecturers.
Protesters did not allow teachers or other students who wanted to take exams to enter the department. Some even alleged favouritism in the exams, an allegation that the officials promptly denied. “There is no scope for this as the reading and presentation exams regarding which the allegations are being made are video recorded,” said in-charge HoD Jyotsna Phanse.
When the security and vigilance staff of the university rushed to the department, they were denied entry by the agitating students. When the personnel tried to push the students away from the gate, they pushed the security staff back and in the melee that ensued a security guard, who was pushed down from the steps at the entrance, fell on the ground.
